Burn Size Estimation, Challenges, and Novel Technology

Accurate burn size calculation is basic for a scientific approach to burns treatment. Since the influence of burns size on the outcome has been verified, multiple formulas have been developed to ensure better data quality. There are multiple ways how to evaluate and various errors which can influence the results. This led to methods reducing observer errors as well as interobserver variability. This chapter tries to give an overview of the development of methods and techniques with a critical appraisal of the methods.
