Real-time traffic information for even more safety through joint project EVIS.AT

New era of cooperation between ASFINAG, ÖAMTC, Ministry of Climate Protection, federal states, cities and ITS organizations: More information for more punctual arrivals

Well-informed road users are safe on the road. ASFINAG pursues this goal by providing a wide range of data, from road works to traffic obstructions. With the joint project EVIS.AT, the data worlds of more than 18 partners – including ASFINAG, all federal provinces, ÖAMTC, the Ministry of Climate Protection and the Ministry of Transport – have now been combined and are offered to customers around the clock in more than 25 mobility and traffic information apps.

The key point here is that the information covers more than 12,000 kilometers of road network, i.e., not only the freeways and expressways but also the most important state and municipal roads. This information is transmitted in real time and thus also forms the basis for cross-modal traffic management (i.e. not “only” limited to individual road traffic). EVIS.AT was a cooperative project led by ASFINAG, which has now been successfully completed and is making the results directly available to the partners.

RISC Software GmbH as part of the ITS-OÖ organization is EVIS cooperation partner and also data supplier for traffic and forecast information for the Upper Austrian provincial road network. With applications like LisiGo, people in Upper Austria are already well informed. In combination with information about charging stations, elevation profiles and road categories, C02 optimized tours can be planned in the future, which take into account the special requirements of electric, autonomous and heavy duty vehicles.

About the EVIS.AT project

The research project EVIS.AT (Real-Time Traffic Information Road Austria) and the traffic data obtained from it serve as a basis for the other projects mentioned. In EVIS.AT, several fleets (trucks, cars, a combination of trucks and cars, emergency vehicles, cabs) were acquired for data collection and sections of road were equipped with sensors (VDL/counting loops, Bluetooth) for traffic counting. The aim of this project is to provide real-time traffic situation information for the region of Upper Austria, this traffic situation is also an integral part of Austria-wide traffic situation of VAO.
