Michael Bögl: Job description software developer

Michael Bögl studied Computer Science at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and works in the field of Logistics Informatics.

What kind of education do you have?

I graduated from the HTL Braunau am Inn with a degree in electronics. Afterwards, I decided to study computer science at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of the Johannes Kepler University Linz. Through my diploma thesis in the field of route planning, I got in contact with the Institute for Production and Logistics Management at the Faculty of Economics, where I also worked during my doctoral studies.

What made you decide to study engineering?

I was attracted to and fascinated by technology from an early age. When I got an old Commodore VC 20 as a child, I was fascinated by the possibilities it offered and it was clear to me that it should go in the direction of computer science. During my studies the possibility arose to work scientifically in the field of optimization. I accepted this offer immediately.

How long have you been working at RISC Software GmbH?

I have been working at RISC Software GmbH since September 2014.

What are your responsibilities at RISC Software GmbH?

I work in software development in the Logistics Informatics unit and supervise projects in the different phases. At the beginning it is about collecting the wishes and requirements of the customers, creating a concept and then implementing it in a product.

What do you like about your job?

Above all, I like the variety and challenge in the individual projects. The different tasks mean that you are constantly learning new things. It’s also interesting to gain insights into different industries.

Would you choose to study engineering again?

Yes, I would.
