Newsadoo – All News. Your Topics
A promising European solution for the reliable, secure and personalized consumption of news content
Every second, we are flooded with new information from various media – and we are becoming increasingly aware of how difficult it has become not to lose track, to distinguish fake news from truthful news and to always have the latest information at our fingertips. It’s a good thing that there is already a solution for this. The Linz-based company Newsadoo, one of the most promising media start-ups in Europe, has been tackling precisely these challenges since it was founded in 2017.
The Newsadoo product of the same name – the “Spotify for news” – enables users to access numerous sources and seamlessly consume news across multiple digital devices (including desktop, responsive mobile or voice assistants) that are connected via the application. At the heart of this is the learned consumption behavior of a user through an intelligent algorithm that can derive correlations from time, situation, device and content. With this personalization, users can be provided with relevant and particularly interesting articles at any time, which are suggested by the self-learning models (recommender system). To ensure the quality of the suggestion mechanism, not only the recommender system but also the underlying evaluation of articles must deliver solid and valuable results. To this end, the texts must be processed and analyzed automatically as a first step. This involves using techniques from the field of natural language processing (NLP for short), which enable the transformation of unstructured data (text) into structured, analyzable content.
Together with Newsadoo and SCCH, RISC Software GmbH is working on the further development of the recommendation algorithm in the TIDE (Transparent, Intelligent, Diverse, European News Recommendation Algorithm) project. The research focuses on additional innovative factors such as objectivity, reliability and diversity of content in order to meet the demands of media diversity and variety, to counteract one-sided news consumption and to offer the greatest possible transparency.
RISC Software GmbH is happy to support you in the submission and implementation of (research) projects in the field of Natural Language Processing.
This project was funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG).
