SafeRoadWorks project launch: Focus on safety on highway construction sites

The SafeRoadWorks research project, funded by the FFG (Austrian Research Promotion Agency), has officially begun. The main aim of this project is to increase safety on highway construction sites – for both drivers and workers.

RISC Software GmbH plays a central role in this project by coordinating the project and being responsible for project management. A major contribution of RISC Software GmbH will be in data analysis, especially in object recognition from video data. To this end, deep learning models with methods and tools for the efficient annotation of video and image data will be implemented. In addition, the team will focus on processing biometric signal data to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the safety challenges on construction sites.

The project kick-off meeting took place on November 9, 2023, marking the start of an initiative that aims to make a significant contribution to improving safety on freeway construction sites.

Partners

The project consortium comprises 5 partners: RISC Software GmbH (consortium leader), Autobahnen- und Schnellstraßen- Finanzierungs-Aktiengesellschaft (ASFINAG), EYYES GmbH (EYYES), Österreichischer Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring Club (ÖAMTC) and Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH (ViF). The consortium combines expertise and previous experience in various areas, such as data management, data analysis (image processing and trustworthy AI), planning and execution of road construction work, edge computing, XR simulations and conducting test studies.

This project is funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). www.ffg.at
