Paul Heinzlreiter studied Computer Science at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and works in the field of Logistics Informatics.
What kind of education do you have?
After graduating from the Federal High School Steyr, I studied computer science at the University of Linz.
What made you decide to study engineering?
Towards the beginning of my high school years, a computer arrived at home. This was of course an exciting device, and so I delved more and more into the subject privately, and worked my way through application programs and the operating system to simple programming tasks. That’s why I decided to study computer science after graduating from high school.
How long have you been working at RISC Software GmbH?
I have been working at RISC Software GmbH since September 2010.
What are your responsibilities at RISC Software GmbH?
Since application-oriented research is also conducted in the field of Logistics Informatics, I have a very exciting and varied range of tasks. It ranges from software development for commercial projects as well as research projects, to writing scientific publications as well as project proposals, to coordination tasks and the preparation of reports in the context of research projects.
What do you like about your job?
What I like about computer science in general is that you can map and deal with a lot of different real-life issues in the computer, and that you have a very flexible tool at your disposal. Of course, this also means that you are constantly acquiring new domain knowledge and thus gain insight into a wide variety of areas. In the same way, technological progress in the field of computer science requires constant further training, so you always have the opportunity to get to know new exciting technologies. I also find it very pleasant that my field of work does not only consist of programming tasks, but also offers me other opportunities within the framework of research projects, such as writing scientific publications.
Would you choose to study engineering again?
In any case, that I have made this decision pleases me every day anew.
